I’m Randil Tharusha Withanage, a software engineer from Sri Lanka. I work on the API Platform team at WSO2, where I spend my days on API technologies, AI infrastructure such as AI gateways, distributed systems and cloud-native engineering.

What I’ve worked on

WSO2 · Software Engineer · 2026 – present API Platform team. API technologies and AI infrastructure, including AI gateways.

Pulse iD (fintech) · Associate Software Engineer · 2025 – 2026 Loyalty and rewards infrastructure. Made a hyper-personalized loyalty and rewards platform infrastructure-agnostic, so financial clients could run it on-premise. Replaced cloud-dependent components with self-hosted, Kubernetes-based alternatives, and built a modular admin console with a Go backend and a Next.js frontend.

Pulse iD · Automation Intern · 2024 – 2025 Test and task automation, real-time monitoring and alerting on AWS.

Open source

• Ballerina crypto module: added password hashing and verification with Argon2id, bcrypt and PBKDF2, and RSASSA-PSS (PS256) signing and verification.
• react-animate-onview: scroll-triggered animations for React with a tiny API.

BEng (Hons) Software Engineering, Staffordshire University (APIIT Sri Lanka), on the School of Computing Honour Roll.

What I’m exploring

AI infrastructure, especially the layer between applications and models:

• AI gateways: routing, rate limiting and observability for LLM traffic
• Agent identity and access control: giving AI agents their own identities and least-privilege access to tools and APIs
• Guardrails and AI governance: enforcing policies on prompts, responses and agent actions

Outside of work

Gaming, strength training, and building small tools to fix my own problems.
